Chicago Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon came to the defense of her rookie Angel Reese, who made headlines for her dismissive approach towards reporters during a recent practice.
For those who missed it, Reese admitted after Tuesday’s practice with the Sky that she has “trust” issues with the media for often twisting her words and using it to create drama. As a result, the former LSU star decided to keep her answers “short and sweet” to avoid being misinterpreted.
“I know how y’all like to twist my words, so I’m just keeping it short and sweet,” Reese said.
Even when promised that wouldn’t be the case, the 22-year-old forward only responded by saying: “”I can’t trust any of y’all. So I’m just letting you know — short and sweet.”
When asked about Reese’s attitude towards the media, Weatherspoon expressed understanding and pointed out how her player is being vilified and unfairly treated with almost every comments she makes.

“I think sometimes we fail to realize what the athlete might think. What is she thinking? How does she feel? I think sometimes we just fail to realize that because it’s almost like every time she speaks, there’s something wrong with what she says.
There’s something wrong with what she does. That’s what it seems like. But what we do here as a team, that’s really all that matters,” Weatherspoon revealed, per Chicago Sun-Times.
Weatherspoon did highlight that Reese is “fine” and is “going to be fine” despite the criticisms directed at her.
Reese has been one of the brightest young talents in the WNBA. Unfortunately for her, as she plays the villain role opposite of Caitlin Clark, the attention she’s getting is often filled with negativity.
Hopefully, though, members of the media will treat Reese more fairly by media instead of trying to paint her as the “bad girl” in every narrative.
