Candace Cameron Bure spent two years as a co-host on THE VIEW, and she recently reflected on the experience.

“It’s called THE VIEW because it’s supposed to be five different viewpoints. It’s pretty much one viewpoint. There’s usually like one token conservative, so I was that conservative for two years,” Bure told Allie Schnacky on the JWALKRS Podcast.
The actress revealed that she tried to turn that job down “multiple times.”
“I wasn’t even looking for that job. I actually didn’t even know I was up for that job. They had asked me to just do a fill-in guest co-host a couple of times, and I’m like, ‘Well, that’s kind of scary, but that’s kind of fun.’ I’ve never done that. I want to do that, so I filled in as a guest, I think, two times or three times a couple of months apart and then got a call saying we’re looking for a new co-host for the season and we want to offer you the job,” she recalled.
Bure took the job into consideration with her husband, Val. The two prayed about it and concluded that Bure shouldn’t take the job.
“Val and I prayed about it, and I was like, ‘I know they talk so much politics on the show, and I’m not comfortable with that, so no.’ And then they came back and they were like we’re actually switching it. It’s going to be more pop culture, more evergreen topics, we’re not really going to talk about politics that much.”
She then tried to decline because the show was filmed in New York, but she lived in Los Angeles.
“They said, ‘We’ll fly you back and forth every week. We’ll pay for the tickets every week,’” Bure explained.
Bure felt God was opening the door for her because anytime she ran into a problem, the show had a solution.
“Val and I kept praying about it, and then I’m like, ‘I think God is calling me to do the show. I think He wants me to be there cause I really don’t want to do it, and yet they’re answering everything that we’re putting their way.’”
Eventually, Bure accepted the job but was still terrified to do it.
“It was so scary to say yes, and it was a really hard show to do, but I’m really grateful that I did it. It grew me a lot,” she said.
Bure previously said that THE VIEW “was one of the easiest places for me to share my faith.”
“I wasn’t great at talking about politics, but I knew what the Bible said,” she explained. “So I could come from my biblical worldview and share about what my opinion was from a faith perspective.”
While she left the show in 2016, she’s still vocal about her faith, especially through her Christmas movies.
“To share the Gospel within the movies and remind people of the hope of Jesus, that’s what has been inspiring for me, and I feel like it’s given me a new energy going into continuing to make Christmas movies, not only as an actor but also other Christmas movies I produce,” Bure told the Christian Post. “Sharing that within the stories is really powerful for me and important in my journey of faith and as a creative in the entertainment industry.”
