With the 2024 WNBA season winding down and the playoffs starting to gain traction, award season is right around the corner.
Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark has become the clear frontrunner for the 2024 Rookie of the Year award, especially with Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese missing the final six games of the season due to a wrist injury.
Clark has even been brought up in discussions for the first-team All-WNBA. But what about the most prestigious individual award in the league?
Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson has all but locked up the MVP award. However, former WNBA star and ESPN analyst Rebecca Lobo thinks Clark deserves to be included in the discussion for the award.
On Thursday, Lobo revealed her ballot for MVP honors, which included the former Iowa star. Her full rankings are as follows:
A’ja Wilson – Las Vegas Aces
Napheesa Collier – Minnesota Lynx
Breanna Stewart – New York Liberty
Caitlin Clark – Indiana Fever
Nneka Ogwumike – Seattle Storm
Clark has earned her way into the MVP discussion with her stellar play during her first season in the WNBA. She is averaging 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists. Not to mention the number of records she has already broken, including most single-season assists, most three-pointers by a rookie, most points by a rookie and the first two triple-doubles by a rookie.
But Wilson has stood out all season as the best player in the league. The two-time MVP is set to receive a third in a year where she broke the single-season scoring and rebounding records.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark
Lobo, who has been a big supporter of Clark throughout the season, played college ball for the UConn Huskies for four years before joining the New York Liberty in 1997, the WNBA’s inaugural season. She spent seven seasons in the league, being named an All-Star and to the second-team All-WNBA in her first year.
With one final game remaining in the regular season for both the Aces and the Fever, there still remains a slight chance that they could meet up in round one. If the Aces beat the Dallas Wings on Thursday night and the Connecticut Sun lose to the Chicago Sky, Las Vegas will host Indiana on Sunday in round one.
