Gen Z tennis star Coco Gauff has reacted to the U.S. TikTok ban following her Australian Open fourth-round win.

U.S. tennis superstar Coco Gauff issued a message on TikTok’s ban following her dominant fourth-round Australian Open win against Belinda Bencic. The No. 3 seed dropped the first set 7-5 but promptly won the second and third 6-2 6-1 to set up a quarter-final with the No. 11 Paula Badosa.
After the game, Gen Z Gauff, who’s just 20, issued a message about TikTok’s Jan. 19 U.S. ban, which affected over 170 million users. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a law passed on Friday, banning the app unless its China-based parent company, ByteDance, sold the platform by the deadline. “RIP TikTok USA,” Gauff wrote on the camera.
However, TikTok could be resurrected quickly. Incoming President Donald Trump is likely to give the paltform a 90-day reprieve from a potential ban once he assumes office following his Monday inauguration. Trump saw considerable success on social media in the November election cycle, helping to eat into the Democrats’ young vote.
“I think that would be, certainly, an option that we look at. The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it’s appropriate. You know, it’s appropriate. We have to look at it carefully. It’s a very big situation,” Trump told NBC. “If I decide to do that, I’ll probably announce it on Monday.”
For Gauff, her attention turns towards Barbosa, who’s standing in her way of progressing towards a career-second Grand Slam. Gauff does have a solid record against the Spanish star, but the American will tread lightly nonetheless.
“Every time I play Paula, it’s a tough match,” Gauff said after her win. “She’s playing some great tennis and the last time we played it went three sets at the end of last year. I’m expecting a tough match.”
On her fourth-round win, she added: “I thought in the first set she played great tennis and it was tough for me to be on the offense. I just played more aggressively in the second set and also the third set.
“But overall, I’m happy with how I played; the first set easily could have gone my way with a few more points, but that’s tennis. I just tried my best to reset for the third.”

Gauff will meet with Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals should they win their respective matches. The Belarusian is searching for a three-peat of Australian Open titles.
The 26-year-old will contest a difficult match in the last eight, though. Sabalenka will play Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
