The Canadiens Receive Special Permission from Gary Bettman and the NHL for Key Player Move

We had a very eventful day today with the Montreal Canadiens.

We saw Patrik Laine participate in his first practice wearing a regular jersey, the call-up of Joshua Roy by Kent Hughes, the surprising demotion of Lucas Condotta, and much more.

In short, it was action-packed. However, there is an interesting piece of information that went under the radar.

The Canadiens requested and received special permission from the NHL regarding Rafaël Harvey-Pinard

As part of Joshua Roy’s call-up, Montreal officially requested an extension to allow Rafaël Harvey-Pinard to stay a bit longer with the Laval Rocket (during his conditioning stint).

«The Canadiens have requested an extended conditioning stint with the Rocket for Rafaël Harvey-Pinard. He is traveling with the team today to Hershey. The team is embarking on a 9-day, 4-game road trip. We’ll see if he completes the entire process.

The extension must be approved by the NHL and is limited to two games. Conditioning stints for players returning from the long-term injured reserve cannot be extended indefinitely. RHP is granted an exception because he has been out for an extended period.»

It appears that this is a two-game extension for Harvey-Pinard in Laval.

Afterward, if Kent Hughes wants to keep him in the AHL, he would have to place him on NHL waivers, which is unlikely to happen.

In three games with the Rocket this season, Harvey-Pinard has yet to score a point and has a -3 rating.

In his NHL career, the forward from Saguenay has accumulated 31 points in 83 games, including 17 goals.

This is a situation to monitor closely. With Joshua Roy’s call-up and the imminent return of Patrik Laine, some big decisions will need to be made.
