Tiger Woods Reveals Prestigious Award Recipient for 2025
The golfer was selected by Tiger Woods for the Genesis Invitational.

This week, Tiger Woods announced that he had selected Danny List as the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial exemption. The 26-year-old will have the opportunity to compete at the Genesis Invitational in two weeks.
The exemption is named after Sifford. He was the first African-American to play on the PGA Tour, winning two tournaments during his career. His best finish in a major was at the 1972 US Open where he finished in a tie for 21st.
The exemption has been in place since 2009. Each year it allows a golfer who has a minority background to compete at the Genesis Invitational. Notable recipients include Cameron Champ and Willie Mack III.
For List, it will be his PGA Tour debut. He was born in Ghana and has been playing the game of golf since age three. At age 14 he became the European junior champion. He has played on tours in Canada, Latin America, and the Korn Ferry Tour.
Tiger Woods chose Danny List for his work ethic and determination.
In an announcement about List’s selection, the legendary Woods said, “Danny has shown resiliency and determination on the course by earning his DP World Tour card after returning from an injury,” “He’s earned this opportunity, and I look forward to seeing Danny tee it up at Torrey.”
At the California State Open in 2024, the Ghana-born player set a tournament record shooting 21 under par to take home the top prize.
In 2021, he also founded the Danny List Foundation, which helps young golfers in Ghana participate and play in the sport. He has hosted youth clinics for the children of his home country.
The honor of the exemption has not been lost on List, who spoke recently of receiving the opportunity. “It’s an incredible privilege to be the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption and be invited to compete at The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines. To have this recognition, especially in Mr. Sifford’s legacy, means the world to me. I’d like to thank Tiger for entrusting me with the opportunity to represent Mr. Sifford’s pioneering spirit and all that he’s done for the game of golf.”
It is fitting that the exemption comes every year during February. This month is Black History Month which is celebrated throughout the United States everywhere.
List and the rest of the field will be teeing it off on Thursday, February 13th at Torrey Pines.
