We have some new information regarding the much-talked-about contract situation of Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans.
I believe everyone agrees on keeping Evans with the Canadiens, but of course, it all depends on the price.
Well, we finally have news about what exactly Evans is asking for.
Jake Evans Wants a 5-Year Contract
According to what journalist Renaud Lavoie mentioned this morning on BPM Sports, Evans is indeed requesting a five-year contract.
He continues:
«Renaud Lavoie recommends he go for three years, and I have the feeling that’s the direction the Canadiens will push. Ultimately, this could end up being a compromise with a four-year contract.”
Charles-Alexis Brisebois
This is definitely an issue that Kent Hughes must resolve in the coming weeks before the trade deadline.
Knowing this, what would you do if you were GM Kent Hughes?
Would you give him 5 years, but for a little less per year?
Would you push for 3-4 years, but paying a bit more per year?
Evans, now 28 years old, has accumulated 25 points in 47 games this season, including 11 goals, and he’s doing an exceptional job right now for Martin St-Louis and the Canadiens on the bottom-6.
It’s clear that it would be great to keep him, but it shouldn’t be a contract that hurts the team’s salary cap in three or four years.
