We finally have something concrete regarding Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans.
The renowned David Pagnotta, who has excellent sources in the National Hockey League (including player agents and general managers), has just confirmed the rumor that had been circulating for a few days.
Negotiations have indeed started between the Montreal Canadiens and Jake Evans’ camp.
Great news!
The Montreal Canadiens are officially working with Jake Evans on a new contract
So, this time, it’s real.
Negotiations have indeed started with Jake Evans
It will be interesting to follow these developments, but as detailed by David Pagnotta and Pierre LeBrun, there is a catch.
Kent Hughes wants to extend Jake Evans’ contract, and the ongoing discussions prove it, but he won’t do it at just any price.
According to the latest figures, the Canadiens won’t go above $5 million per year or a 6-year term.
We can therefore expect a maximum contract of $4.9 million per year for five years.
To reiterate, that would be the absolute maximum.
Obviously, it’s likely to be even less than that.
My personal prediction is as follows: $3.9 million per year for four years.
Jake Evans, 28 years old, is a 6-foot, 190-pound forward who was drafted in the 7th round by the Canadiens in 2014 (207th overall pick).
This season, he has 23 points in 43 games, including 10 goals but hasn’t gotten a single point in his last seven games.
