Travis Kelce made history against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, then got some big props from his team.

Kelce came into the September 29 game just one reception shy of NFL Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez for the most receptions in franchise history, tying and then surpassing the record in the first half.

Kelce quickly added to the record, making five receptions for 74 total yards by halftime. It was the best game of the season for Kelce, who had gotten off to a slow start. Through the first three games of the season, Kelce had just eight receptions for 69 yards and no touchdowns.

After setting the record, the Chiefs took to social media to share a fitting tribute for the 34-year-old tight end.

“TE1. Literally.” the team wrote in a post on X.

As Dillon Seckington of Fox4 Kansas City noted, Kelce has the chance to set another big record if the Chiefs can reach a third straight Super Bowl.

“Kelce sits just two receptions behind Rice’s in Super Bowl receptions record as well,” Seckington wrote. “If the Chiefs can get back to the big game before Kelce retires, it would be something to keep an eye on.”
