It’s rare for this to happen, but a new name was “the talk of the town” last night within the Montreal Canadiens organization.
A new name was on everyone’s lips among the Canadiens entourage, and that name is goaltender Connor Hughes.
Hughes Becomes a Great Move by Kent Hughes
Last June, quietly, the Habs’ general manager announced the signing of a goaltender who had dominated in Europe, making a strong impression with his performance overseas.
Connor Hughes is clearly shaping up to be a solid acquisition for the Habs organization.
Considering he’s already 28, management doesn’t need to keep him in Laval for too long if they plan to give him a shot in Montreal.
They could call him up right now if they wish.
In fact, if Cayden Primeau’s struggles continue (and to some extent Samuel Montembeault’s), do you think Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton should consider this option?
Last night, Connor Hughes practically stole a game on his own for the Laval Rocket.
This season, the 6-foot-4, 231-pound goalie has put up some incredible stats.
He’s got a goals-against average of 1.83, a save percentage of .935, and a record of 4 wins and 1 loss with one shutout.
I’m not saying he’ll be the Canadiens’ starting goalie tomorrow, but if Primeau and Montembeault don’t work out in Montreal, especially since Jakub Dobes is still very young (and injured), Hughes could be a possibility worth considering.
At 28, Hughes might already be ready.
Finally, to show that Hughes was indeed the talk of the night, here are some posts from recent hours:
And you, do you think Connor Hughes could eventually become an option for the Montreal Canadiens and Martin St-Louis?
