The NFL suffered one of the most tragic losses a few years ago after Dwayne Haskins Jr., a promising quarterback who was then a part of the Steelers, passed away after being struck by a vehicle.
Haskins Jr. was one of the most promising quarterbacks in the NFL. After two seasons in Washington with the Commanders, he was released after throwing for just five touchdowns compared to seven interceptions in seven games.
He was eventually signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he saw brief action in the 2021 pre-season. However, he did not play a single regular-season snap for the team before his passing in April 2022.
Now, Haskins’ name has once again popped up in the news after reports of his family suing his widow have emerged after they reportedly refused to give up the late quarterback’s ashes. The family has also claimed that she is misusing his likeness.
Dwayne Haskins Jr.’s Family Claimes Kalabrya Haskins Is Misusing His Likeness
According to the complaint made by Haskins’ mother, father, sister, and community organization, they have “experienced constant harassment from the defendant whenever they have attempted to reference his name, image, and likeness in public forums such as social media.”
Haskins Sr. also referenced a time when he had an Instagram account removed due to his resemblance to his son and the fact that the two share the same name. “This decision was made despite the fact that Dwayne Haskins Sr. simply shares the same name as his famous son but has not otherwise posted any content on Instagram,” said the complaint.
While the situation may be extremely difficult for the family of the late NFL quarterback, it’s unclear what the ruling of the lawsuit will be. There will be a close eye placed on the situation as the Haskins family will look to properly grieve their son more than two years after his passing.
