BBC Breakfast viewers were left divided on Tuesday as Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent announced Oasis’ UK and Ireland tour
BBC Breakfast presenters Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent stopped the programme for some breaking news about Oasis.
Sally kicked off with: “Good morning it is Tuesday 27th of August and our main story in the last few moments, the band Oasis has announced a UK and Ireland tour next year with gigs in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin.”
As a ‘breaking news’ banner flashed across the screen, an excited Ben chimed in while brandishing a press release: “Hot off the press, this is it, this is the confirmation so many people have been waiting for. That long-awaited reunion.
“They’re known for smashing hits like ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, and since their split back in 2009, fans have been eager for this moment,” he said before cutting to culture reporter Charlotte Gallagher. Looking to Charlotte, Ben added: “A lot of speculation, a lot of rumour, this is it.”
Charlotte responded: “I am so glad they’ve announced it when we’ve not all just been saying it was going to happen and then they said, ‘We’re going to re-issue an old album, guys’,” reports the Express.
Charlotte dived into details about the 14 tour dates and speculated: “Let’s be honest if they sell out Wembley four dates, they’re going to add more, aren’t they? They may well break Taylor Swift’s record.”
Sally wrapped up the discussion, remarking: “In the statement we have had in the last few moments, they are only fanning the flames basically, aren’t they? The anticipation..”

A forthright fan expressed personal disinterest: “Is it just me that doesn’t give a stuff about an #oasis reunion #BBCBreakfast,” while another trivialised the news: “#Oasis the Beatles tribute band gonna announce some gigs. Zzzzzzzzzzz #BBCBreakfast.”
One disgruntled licence fee contributor questioned the public broadcaster’s priorities: “How much time and my TV licence money does the BBC intend to spend on this totally unimportant piece of “news”?” (sic)
Yet, amid the sea of complaints, some fans couldn’t contain their enthusiasm. A thrilled fan proclaimed: “Superb…I’ll be there,” supported by another who celebrated: ” Unreal news, get in!”
Some fans of Oasis were left overjoyed at the news of the band’s upcoming UK and Ireland tour, eagerly anticipating the chance to hear classics like ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ performed live once again.
The excitement spread like wildfire among loyal supporters, with many already making plans to secure tickets to the highly anticipated gigs.
As the tour dates were announced, speculation ran rampant about the possibility of additional shows being added if the initial tickets sold out quickly.
