The Cincinnati Bengals absorbed a painful one-point loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, 26-25, on Sept. 15 after kicker Harrison Butker delivered anew for the two-time defending champions.
Butker’s 51-yard walk-off field goal came after the Bengals were whistled for pass interference on fourth-and-16 in the final minute.
It was another frustrating defeat for the Bengals against their conference nemesis, who beat them in the AFC Championship Game last season.
The frustration came to a head when wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was called for unsportsmanlike conduct in the fourth quarter after he argued with head referee Alex Kemp. The camera caught an incensed Chase screaming as Kemp walked past him.

While it’s unclear what Kemp told Chase, lip-reading fans claimed that the veteran official told the Bengals star to “get the f*** out of my face,” as tweeted by MLFootball.
“Joe Burrow seemed to say the ref saying this to Chase really got him going, a big part of his anger,” added the tweet. “This is really crazy.”
The post has garnered close to 17,000 views as of writing.
In a report by the Associated Press, Kemp addressed his altercation with Chase.
“It’s pretty clear cut,” Kemp said. “It’s just simply abusive language toward a game official. I’m not going to repeat to you what he said, but there was no interpretation with the language that he used. Just abusive language.”
The Bengals fell to 0-2 and will return to the field on Sept. 23 against the Washington Commanders.
