Montreal Canadiens’ forward, Patrik Laine, is a huge fan favorite. His acquisition by Kent Hughes, in a deal made a few months ago with the Blue Jackets, has turned out to be one of Hughes’ best moves.
We love Laine and we hope to keep him with the Habs for as long as possible.
Many of us are worried about losing Laine because his contract expires in less than two years, and after that, he will be a free agent, but the Finnish player has just made a big statement.
As for a potential contract extension, Patrik Laine has already announced his intentions, and clearly, he seems to want to finish his career here.
Patrik Laine opens up about his intentions via a Finnish media outlet
As reported by the excellent page HabsOnReddit, Laine has just made a statement you’re going to love.
Here’s the excerpt in question:
Patrik Laine on playing for the Habs, in a Finnish interview last month with Yle Sports:
«If I had to choose a place where I could play, this would probably be it. I’ve never been so excited as when I heard I was coming here to Montreal. This is such a mecca for hockey.»
If he could choose just one team to play for in the NHL, it would be the Montreal Canadiens. Wow.
Clearly, Kent Hughes will absolutely have the opportunity to discuss a contract extension with him, and we really hope that it comes to fruition.
Starting July 1st, we can begin hoping to hear the news, and we can start hoping to see the Montreal Canadiens grant Patrik Laine a contract extension.
After all, he’s only 26!
Laine has 4 points in 4 games this season, including three goals, and he has really given a second wind to Martin St-Louis’ squad since his return to play.
Montreal loves Laine and Laine loves Montreal!
A story to follow closely, but it’s looking very promising.
