Victor Wembanyama has played fewer than 100 NBA games, but the San Antonio Spurs star is slowly breaking the ice for young players.
After a slow start to his second season , Wembanyama has found his feet. At 20 years old, the French center is shaking off the “rising star” label and reaching the level of an NBA superstar. His impressive performance against the Sacramento Kings on December 2 is a prime example.
Wembanyama had his third career triple-double after recording 34 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in the Spurs’ 127-125 win over the Kings.
It’s too early to tell if the Spurs can return to the playoffs, but they’re making the most of Wembanyama’s potential. The French center continues to make incredible progress in his second season in the NBA.

Victor Wembanyama’s HORRIBLE Statistics
In the first 17 games of the 2024/25 NBA season, Wembanyama averaged 24.0 points – 10.2 rebounds – 3.6 assists – 1.3 steals and 3.5 blocks. Wemby’s shooting percentage was 48.4%, his 3-point percentage was 35.0% and his free throw percentage was 85.5%. These are very impressive statistics, but if you look at his recent games alone, his statistics are even more terrifying.
In the match against Utah Jazz on November 10, Wembanyama recorded a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Although Spurs lost the match, that match marked a turning point for Wembanyama. Before that, he had been having trouble with his long-range shots. But in the match against Utah, Wembanyama successfully shot 6/9 3-pointers, and also made 7 blocks. Since that match, Wembanyama has been playing better and better. Below are Wemby’s statistics since the match against Utah Jazz in early November.

Since Wembanyama’s performance against Utah, he has made more 3-pointers per game than Stephen Curry, is averaging the fourth-highest points per game in the league over the same span, and has more blocks per game (3.4) than the entire Miami Heat (3.3).
The eight-match series included the following performances:
November 12 vs Sacramento: 34 PTS (13-22 FG, 6-12 3FG), 14 REB, 6 AST, 3 BLK
November 14 vs Washington: 50 PTS (18-29 FG, 8-16 3FG), 6 REB, 2 AST, 3 BLK
November 27 vs Utah: 34 PTS (13-23 FG, 6-14 3FG), 7 REB, 2 AST, 3 BLK
December 2 vs Sacramento: 34 PTS (11-17 FG, 5-9 3FG), 14 REB, 11 AST, 3 BLK
More than just numbers, Wembanyama has done the literally impossible.
Domantas Sabonis was one of the candidates for the title of “Defensive Player of the Year” last season. However, the 6-foot-8 Kings center was completely helpless against Wembanyama’s absurd reach. Even though he followed Wemby very closely, he was completely unable to reach the Spurs center’s shot.
Wembanyama is the tallest player in the tournament, standing at 2m24 with an incredible arm span of 2m43. If you put him in a shooting position, he is simply unstoppable.
NBA
In his second season, Wembanyama is showing the class of an All-Star, a “Defensive Player of the Year” candidate, and an All-NBA. If he continues his impressive performance like the past time, Wembanyama can completely bring the Spurs back to the Playoffs.
Wembanyama is on a fast track to NBA glory: his first of many All-Star selections, Defensive Player of the Year awards, and All-NBA nominations. His biggest goal will be his first NBA Playoff appearance. The AT&T team last made the playoffs in 2018-19.
