Tim McGraw Delights Fans With ‘Precious’ Throwback Photo From His Youth
The singer revealed a special personal moment with his late father.
Tim McGraw was feeling the family love as the holiday season starts, sharing a special moment from when he was 20 years old and first getting to know his father, Frank “Tug” McGraw.
The singer took to Instagram on Nov. 19 to post a photo of himself and his late dad, writing, “20 years old! One of the first times I hung out with my Dad……the Tugger!”
In the old photo, McGraw’s father was smiling brightly as he stood with his arm around his son, while the singer stared at the camera with a neutral expression.

The resemblance between father and son was on full display, despite this being one of Tug and McGraw’s first-ever meetings.
Fans thanked McGraw for sharing such a personal memory, with one writing in the comments, “This is a great photo. And SOOO cool to see you at 20! Thank you for sharing. 🙂.”
“A precious memory,” said another, while more talked about McGraw’s relationship with his father, saying, “He looks so proud of you, glad he got to see who you became before he passed❤️.”
Tug, who had an impressive baseball career, passed away in 2004 at the age of 59 after a battle with brain cancer.
McGraw didn’t know that Tug was his father until he was around 11 years old. Tug reportedly denied his parentage until McGraw became an adult, finally meeting and starting a relationship with the singer when he was around 18 years old. The father and son’s relationship grew over the years until Tug passed away.
Referencing their unique relationship, one fan commented, “After reading about your dad and your relationship with him, you are a much bigger person than I could be. I’m glad you got some time with him. 💜.”
Others couldn’t help but point out the resemblance between McGraw and Tug, writing things like, “you totally have his eyes,” “see where you get your Smile 🤠,” and “CRAZY how much you look like him!!❤️.”
In early October, McGraw mentioned his father while paying tribute to baseball player Pete Rose after his death. He must’ve been feeling nostalgic, as he also shared a post about his dad a few days later as the playoffs went on.
