The Los Angeles Dodgers have surprised many by signing Blake Snell. They extended Tommy Edman and were one among several teams to meet Juan Soto. After a long wait, Soot’s free agency is predicted to end sometime this week.
The New York Mets are believed to have offered Soto the biggest number, $730 million. The Yankees are not far behind with a predicted number of $710 million. The Red Sox and Blue Jays have also said that they have offered Soto a contract. As for the Dodgers, they are still believed to be in pursuit of Soto.
MLB broadcaster Michael Kay said the Boys in Blue are still in it. Kay says that the Dodgers are smart as they wait for an opening to jump in and are the kings of the deferment. Shohei Ohtani has $680 million deferred money, while Blake Snell has $66 million. Not to forget Tommy Edman to the list.
“The Dodgers are still in it because what they do they’re so smart, they kinda hover to see if there is an opening for them to jump in. They tried to do it with Bryce Harper, but it didn’t work. But they try to do that to see if they can get a better deal, and you know they’re kings of the deferment too,” Kay said via the Michael Kay Show.
Los Angeles Dodgers Miss Out On Tyler O’Neil
The Dodgers were linked to Tyler O’Neil this offseason, but the Baltimore Orioles got the better of it. The O’s beat Dave Roberts and his squad as they signed O’Neil to a three-year $49.5 million contract.
The Boys in Blue were one of the favorites to sign the outfielder, but it all went in vain. With Soto in the mix, it is hard to predict the team’s next move. They could pursue Soto or opt for signing a slugger like Teoscar Hernandez.
Signing Hernandez would give them a window to add more prospects. The pitching squad is something they would try to focus on. Clayton Kershaw is yet to get an offer from the franchise. With a number of players on their list, including Soto, it’s not surprising what they are capable of.
