“I Think I’ve Earned the Moment”: Kelly Clarkson Announces Major Career Move
“Miss Independent” indeed. On the Jan. 22 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the host announced that she’s started her own record label.
The reveal came during Kelly Clarkson‘s chat with Keke Palmer. The multi-hyphenate launched her own label, Big Bosses Entertainment, in 2017. After Palmer spoke about that experience, Clarkson shared how she relates to it.
“I’m so much older than you… and it’s my first time in my career and I just now started my own label and I’m putting out my own stuff,” Clarkson said. “I’ve had some good teams to work with, but there is nothing like being that 10-year-old again and being excited and nobody saying, ‘Oh, you should do this’ and ‘You should do this.’”
Palmer lamented how “people don’t know how hard” running a label is, something with which Clarkson quickly agreed.
“Girl, I’m finding out,” she said. “I’m putting together a music video, and I’m like, ‘Wait, I forgot to do what?’ I just now started it. I started writing, and I was like, ‘Wait, how do I put this out now?’ And then, I was like ‘Well, I guess through me.’”
It’s been more than two decades since Clarkson burst onto the scene on American Idol. Given that, she said she feels ready for this next step in her career.
“I feel like I’ve earned it, so I’m excited,” she said. “I think I’ve earned the moment.”
Clarkson first signed with RCA after her Idol win, before heading to Atlantic Records in 2016. The singer is still listed on the latter label’s roster, and no other details about her own venture have been announced.
How Kelly Clarkson Helped Launch ‘The Voice’ Newcomer’s Career
The Voice returns for its 27th season Monday, Feb. 3, with newcomer Kelsea Ballerini joining veteran coaches Michael Bublé, John Legend, and Adam Levine. And the “Cowboys Cry Too” singer recently told her fellow coaches how Kelly Clarkson inspired her career.
Ballerini recalled seeing Clarkson live when her Behind These Hazel Eyes Tour stopped in Knoxville. Two video screens above the “Breakaway” singer displayed her eyes, which would cry, close, or wink depending on the song.
“I was having this moment as a little kiddo, and I looked up to these screen eyes of Kelly Clarkson, and they winked,” the CMT Music Awards host said. “In my soul, I really believed that Kelly Clarkson told me I was supposed to move to Nashville.”
