Despite the San Francisco 49ers’ one of the most explosive offenses in the league, the team continuously looks for ways to improve and ensure another trip to the Super Bowl. In this case, the team has considered trading for Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Myers.
This is likely because San Francisco will be without their first-round pick wide receiver Ricky Pearsall after he suffered a gunshot wound just before the start of the season.
It wouldn’t be exactly a cheap trade, either, as Myers has been on the rise even in a struggling Las Vegas offense.
In 2023, Myers had his best season to date, reeling in 71 receptions for 807 yards and eight touchdowns. He did all of that despite the quarterback controversy between Jimmy Garaopllo and Aiden O’Connell.
Myers would instantly become one of the best third-string wide receivers in the league, presumably behind Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.
It would also mean that talented fifth-year receiver Jauan Jennings would move all the way down to WR4 on the depth chart. Of course, if Jennings wasn’t a part of the deal.
If a trade like this did take place, the 49ers offense would become even more lethal.
Jakobi Myers Has A Pretty Major Cap Hit
A player like Myers would not only cost a decent amount to trade for, but his cap hit also needs to be considered after the team has just signed Aiyuk to a new four-year $120 million deal.
Jakobi is entering the second year of his three-year $33 million contract he signed with the Raiders.
In 2024, his cap hit will be at $9.4 million, and in 2025, that number will rise to $14.9 million. There’s certainly a lot the 49ers would need to think about before any trade happens
