Garth Brooks’ Legal Battle Heats Up As Jane Roe’s Team Moves for “Maximum Sanctions” Against the Country Star
Garth Brooks has been quietly locked in a legal battle for months and there’s no end in sight. He originally filed a lawsuit against a former employee, identified only as Jane Roe, claiming defamation and extortion. Earlier this month, Roe filed suit against Brooks claiming that he raped and sexually assaulted her while she was his hair and makeup artist. Most recently, Brooks re-filed his original suit, naming the former employee in the suit. Now, Roe’s attorneys are out for blood. They’re moving for “maximum sanctions” in their suit.
According to People, Brooks decided to re-file his original suit without pseudonyms claiming that Roe’s legal team disclosed his name to the press in relation to her suit. Now Roe’s legal team is speaking out against the country superstar. “Garth Brooks just revealed his true self,” said Roe’s attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen, and Haley Baker told the publication. “With no legal justification, Brooks outed her because he thinks the laws don’t apply to him. On behalf of our client, we will be moving for maximum sanctions against him immediately,” they added.
A Look at Garth Brooks’ Legal Battle
In his original filing, Brooks said he was the victim of a “shakedown.” He further stated that Roe “devised a malicious scheme to blackmail” him into cutting her a multi-million-dollar check. The alleged extortion came after he declined to give Roe a permanent salary and medical benefits. Additionally, he claimed that she threatened to go public with her allegations with the goal of ruining Brooks’ reputation.
In a statement, Brooks said that he has “been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars.” He further stated, “Hus money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of—ugly acts no human should ever do to another.”
Roe’s suit alleged that Brooks exposed himself to her, spoke openly about his sexual fantasies, and sent sexually explicit text messages to her in 2019. Her suit further alleges that Brooks raped her in a hotel and asked her to have a threesome with him and his wife Trisha Yearwood.
In a recent episode of Inside Studio G, Brooks said this legal battle could go on for two years and he is prepared to ride it out.
