What Jon Bon Jovi’s Wife Dorothea Wrote In His High School Yearbook

Jon Bon Jovi shared a heartwarming revelation about his wife, Dorothea Hurley —a note she wrote in his high school yearbook, which ultimately inspired one of his most beloved songs.

In an interview with Kelly Clarkson on her daytime show, Bon Jovi recounted the moment of inspiration for the song “Bobby’s Girl,” inspired by a note penned by his high school sweetheart and now-wife.

“John, write a sequel to ‘Bobby’s Girl’ but name it ‘She’s Johnny’s Now… Love, Dot,” he fondly recalled.

Delving deeper into the backstory, he shared, “There was a song I had written called ‘Bobby’s Girl…It was one of the first original songs I had written. [Dorothea] was dating my buddy Bobby. He went off to join the service as did my other two best friends… They joined the Navy. And it was my senior year of high school, and I just fell in love.”

This anecdote emerged following Bon Jovi’s candid reflections on relationship challenges in his new Hulu documentary, The Bon Jovi Story.

“I’m not saying that there weren’t 100 girls in my life… I’m Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good,” he candidly admitted.

Further addressing his rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle on ABC’s special “Halfway There,” he quipped, “I’m a rock ‘n’ roll star, I’m no saint,” acknowledging moments where he “got away with murder.”

However, he emphasized, “If you think I was ever gonna jeopardize my anything for believing that the narcissist in me was real, what a stupid thing to do…What kind of excess does a man need that’s going to fuel that fire? It’s just not worth it.”

Despite the ups and downs, Bon Jovi and Hurley have stood the test of time, raising four children together — Stephanie, 31, Jesse, 29, Jake, 22, and Romeo, 20.
