Entering the 2025 offseason, it was no secret that the Detroit Lions were going to be seeing some changes to their coaching staff.
With that, it was no surprise when offensive coordinator Ben Johnson found his next job quickly after the Lions were eliminated from the playoffs.
What was a bit surprising was where he ended up.
Johnson decided to sign a deal with the Chicago Bears, who also play in the NFC North.
It’s a move that Lions fans have been understandably unhappy about.
Now it seems that a player who was a key piece of Johnson’s offense the past couple of seasons isn’t all that thrilled about it either.
A day after the Johnson news was announced, Lions running back David Montgomery posted his reaction to his Instagram story (via mlive’s Kory Woods).
Montgomery began his NFL career with the Bears after they selected him in the third round of the 2019 draft.
He spent the first four seasons of his career there, racking up 3609 yards and 26 touchdowns on the ground while adding 1240 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
Montgomery then headed to the Lions where he spent the last two season.
In those two seasons with Johnson as his offensive coordinator, Montgomery ran for 1790 yards and 25 touchdowns while making 52 catches for 458 yards.
It was already a revenge game for Montgomery any time the Lions matched up with the Bears, but now it looks like he’ll have a bit of extra motivation when the teams meet in 2025.
