The NBA constantly changes, with teams looking for ways to improve by trading players or signing new ones.
One of the most exciting stories right now is about Giannis Antetokounmpo, a superstar from the Milwaukee Bucks. With the 2025 offseason coming soon, there are rumors about a team from the Western Conference wanting to make a big trade to get him. This news caught everyone’s interest because Giannis is one of the biggest stars in the league.
The Milwaukee Bucks have Giannis Antetokounmpo signed through the 2027-28 season, including a three-year, $175 million extension starting after 2025. However, talk about his future is growing as the team faces challenges with an aging roster and limited flexibility. While acquiring Damian Lillard was a significant move, doubts remain about the Bucks’ long-term competitiveness.
The Golden State Warriors are one of the most talked-about teams that could acquire Giannis. An NBA insider has said that the chance of Golden State trading for Giannis is “worth monitoring.”
During an appearance on Audacy’s “The TK Show” podcast, Sam Amick from The Athletic mentioned, “One that I think is just always gonna be monitored around the NBA is if the wheels fall off the Bucks,” Amick told Tim Kawakami. “We know that Joe Lacob has had dreams of Giannis coming the Warriors’ way for a very long time. Again, unlikely, but Khris Middleton is gonna be a free agent next summer… I think Giannis is worth monitoring.”
Warriors owner Joe Lacob has long wanted Giannis Antetokounmpo on the team. The Warriors’ recent struggles might make this trade more likely. Entering a new phase, the team could significantly improve its chances of winning another championship by adding Giannis.
Potential Destinations For Giannis Antetokounmpo In 2025
Another unexpected potential destination for Giannis Antetokounmpo is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Many consider the Thunder, a strong candidate to land Giannis in 2025 due to their young and talented roster and numerous draft picks.
With emerging stars like Josh Giddey and Chet Holmgren, the Thunder have a strong chance to make a good offer. While it might seem early to talk about this, the Thunder’s resources and future outlook make them a serious player.
Several other teams are also closely watching Giannis’ situation. The New York Knicks have long been linked to Giannis, but their growing payroll makes it difficult for them to take on his contract. The Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and New Orleans Pelicans also show interest, each bringing their own strengths and plans. The Pelicans, in particular, have a strong starting lineup and plenty of draft picks, making them a strong contender.

The trade value for Giannis Antetokounmpo would be incredibly high. Previous trades for big stars like Rudy Gobert and Mikal Bridges have set a high standard, with each trade netting about five first-round picks. Given Giannis’ status as a global superstar, any trade would likely require a huge package of draft picks and young talent, potentially as many as seven first-round picks.
The Bucks would only consider trading Giannis if he asked to be moved. Despite some recent frustrations and an early playoff exit, the Bucks will likely stick with their current team, changing the supporting cast as needed. However, if Giannis requested a trade, the Bucks could use their position to get a strong return, helping set up their future with valuable assets.
