A source close to the Laval Rocket has made a troubling statement, one that says a lot about young defenseman Logan Mailloux.
Personally, I believed that Mailloux was doing everything necessary to be quickly called up from the Rocket by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
A striking comment from the excellent Anthony Marcotte on BPM Sports
Someone who closely follows the activities of the Laval Rocket has just poured a bit of cold water on those of us (like me) who believe Mailloux might already be ready to help Martin St-Louis’ squad.
It’s clear that when things aren’t going well, it’s tempting to look elsewhere for reinforcements, particularly in Laval.
«On that note, in his morning segment on BPM Sports, Anthony Marcotte said something that struck me while discussing the recent days of the Laval Rocket.
The voice of the Rocket believes that Joshua Roy is very involved, taking charge, and doing so ‘much more’ than someone like Logan Mailloux, for example.» – Charles-Alexis Brisebois
This is interesting because, strictly looking at stats and figures, you wouldn’t think that at all.
Hearing Anthony Marcotte explicitly say that «he’s not taking enough charge» is not good news.
It implies that if Mailloux were truly taking charge, he would probably already be in the National Hockey League, playing for the Montreal Canadiens.
On the flip side, it’s good news to hear that Joshua Roy is taking charge, which is probably the reason Roy was recalled by the Canadiens this morning.
In Roy’s case, the issue is much more about «available seats» with the big club, especially with the imminent returns of Patrik Laine and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
Two cases to watch closely in the coming weeks.
Roy, 21 years old, has tallied 16 points in 17 games this season with the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate. (32 points in 41 games last season)
Mailloux, also 21, has accumulated 13 points in 12 games this season with the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate. (47 points in 72 games last season)
