San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel remains one of the most fascinating names to follow in the rumor mill between now and the Nov. 5 trade deadline.
The 49ers haven’t offered any indications that they’re shopping Deebo Samuel this year, but GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan need just one strong offer from a rival team to make the move.
As great of a player as Samuel is, he’s not exactly untouchable in 49er land. They already have three superstar weapons in running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end Geore Kittle and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
They used their 2024 first-round pick on wideout Ricky Pearsall, and veteran Jauan Jennings is in the midst of a career year amid a string of injuries to key skill position guy players. On top of that, Samuel carries a hefty cap hit of $15.957 million for 2025, according to OvertheCap.com.
One team that stands out as a logical landing spot for Deebo Samuel is the Houston Texans, who look every bit like a Super Bowl contender with a 6-2 record. The Texans need WR help after losing All-Pro Stefon Diggs for the year with an ACL tear and with superstar Nico Collins still on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
The Texans have one of football’s best quarterbacks in CJ Stroud and Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon. Collins and Tank Dell are among the league’s top receiving tandems, but an explosive playmaker like Samuel would take their offense to another level And with Diggs unlikely to re-sign ahead of 2025 free agency, the Texans would have a suitable replacement in Samuel for 2025.
What Texans Should Offer 49ers For Deebo Samuel
A pair price for Samuel would be the Texans’ 2025 third-round pick and seldom-used wideout John Metchie III. Houston’s 2022 second-round pick has been the subject of trade rumors and would benefit from a fresh start.
The 49ers are 4-4 this season and don’t look like true Super Bowl contenders, so one can make the case that they’re better off trading Samuel fo a day-two pick and seeing what the likes of Pearsall and Jennings can do with expanded playing time.
