We have a trade to announce between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers.
Here is the official statement released by the organization:
« BROSSARD – Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has acquired defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Jacob Perreault.
Hoefenmayer, 25, has registered seven points (1G, 6A) in 11 games with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL this season. The 6-foot-1, 191-pound left-handed defenseman has appeared in 149 regular season games over five AHL seasons with the Toronto Marlies and the Condors, tallying 21 goals and 51 assists.
The Toronto, ON native was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the fourth round (108th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.
Montreal Canadiens
Hoefenmayer is officially joining the Canadiens organization.
Minor Trade Between the Canadiens and Oilers
Kent Hughes brings in a 25-year-old left-handed defenseman who stands 6 foot 1 and weighs 204 lbs.
Hoefenmayer was a 4th-round pick by the Arizona Coyotes in 2017 and has played 11 games this season with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate.
Over the past few seasons, his stats include:
7 points in 11 games (this year)
18 points in 47 games (2023-24)
38 points in 65 games (2022-23).
We’re eager to see what the organization’s plans are for Hoefenmayer, especially since he’s a left-shot defenseman.
He seems to have a physical edge, having racked up 64 penalty minutes in 47 games last season and 114 penalty minutes in 65 games during the 2022-23 season. This is obviously a minor trade, but you never know what it might lead to.
More details to follow.
