The 36-year love affair of rock leader Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley have known each other since high school, married unexpectedly in Las Vegas 27 years ago and have a happy married life.

Jon Bon Jovi is a singer, producer, and leader of the famous rock band Bon Jovi (founded in 1983). In his career, the male singer has two albums at number one on the Billboard charts and sold millions of copies worldwide. At the age of 54, Jon Bon Jovi is still working hard to tour and compose music.

However, what makes fans appreciate Jon Bon Jovi the most is the iron love affair from high school with Dorothea Hurley. They have been married for 27 years, given birth to four children and a strong love.

In 1980, Jon Bon Jovi – then 18 years old – met Dorothea Hurley during a high school exam. Jon didn’t study and was forced to turn to the next tablemate’s question. From there, they talked to each other and maintained a friendship. When he learned that Dorothea Hurley was attached to Bobby – Jon’s best friend, he still did not hide his feelings. Jon wrote the song Bobby’s Girls to express his love for Dorothea Hurley. When Bobby enlisted, Jon and Dorothea Hurley began to develop a relationship.

They had been separated for four years, before they healed. Jon Bon Jovi told VH1: “I went to the house and told Dorothea’s mother directly that I wanted to get back with her. And Dorothea melted.”

In the late 1980s, Bon Jovi released two successful albums – Slippery When Wet (1986) and New Jersey (1989). Both topped the charts and sold nearly 50 million copies. This success gives them a boost, helping them gain a worldwide reputation. However, Jon Bon Jovi said that he still feels that there is something missing in life.

“I’ve had number one albums. Opening the door of the hotel room, our images appeared everywhere. But I want to do something,” Jon Bon Jovi said on VH1.

In 1989, Jon Bon Jovi, then 27 years old, decided to take advantage of a vacation in the middle of a tour in New Jersey to fly to Las Vegas (USA). He secretly married Dorothea Hurley. They don’t even prepare wedding rings. Band members, managers, security team… were unaware of Jon’s decision.

Jon later recounted on VH1 that his relatives and management were worried about the band’s reputation. After all, he is the lead singer of one of the most popular bands. His image is admired by many female fans. Weddings can ruin everything.

“We do it for ourselves. Because of this decision, I received a lot of pressure from the band, parents, and managers. Everyone was angry. After a few days, I thought I shouldn’t bother with other people’s thoughts,” Jon recalled.

Dorothea Hurley rarely attends events with her husband, she prefers a normal life with concern for her four children. She was also never jealous of Jon when he was loved by so many women. Jon Bon Jovi said that he understands his wife’s sacrifices and will never betray her.

“I was right from the beginning. She’s the best person and I admire Dorothea,” Jon confessed his feelings for his wife to People.

In an interview, Jon Bon Jovi affirmed that he never used opium, did not drink too much alcohol leading to loss of control. That’s a rare thing to see in a rock star. Jon said that he was adamant about his choice because he already had a place called “home” and couldn’t imagine what he would be like without his family. But Jon allows himself to be comfortable in the world of Rock and Roll.

In recent years, Jon Bon Jovi has been busy with music and tours but he tries to spend time with his family whenever he can. When his eldest daughter – Stephanie Rose – overdosed on heroin a few years ago, Jon Bon Jovi was shocked. He did not want to see any other child become a victim of drugs.

Dorothea Hurley still chooses to stand behind Jon Bon Jovi, rarely talking about her husband in the newspaper. She is always by the side of leader Bon Jovi, supporting and sharing his career.
