The Duchess of York also revealed her nickname for the late Queen

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has revealed the last words Queen Elizabeth shared with her before her passing in 2022.

65-year-old Ferguson was married to the disgraced Prince Andrew between 1986 and 1996. Following an investigation into Andrew’s friendship with convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, the royal resigned from his official duties in May 2020.

He went on to be accused of sexually assaulting Virginia Giuffre when she was a minor, which was then followed by him being stripped of his royal and military titles.

Despite Ferguson’s divorce from the Prince, Ferguson remained close with her former mother-in-law, the Queen.

She opened up in a recent interview with The Times: “The best advice she gave me was the last thing she said to me: ‘Sarah, remember that yourself is good enough’.

“It makes me cry.”

Ferguson called the Queen ‘Mumma,’ adding: “She knew me all my life and she loved me.”

She also touched on her relationship with King Charles, explaining: “I’ve known the King all my life and I absolutely adore him. He’s kind and makes me laugh and I love that he still calls me Fergie.”

Ferguson, who has two daughters with Prince Andrew, opened up on their marriage.

She said: “I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 percent. He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind. Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today.

“I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs — communication, compromise, compassion.”

She then went into her experience with breast cancer.

Ferguson said: “[My sister] Jane insisted I get a mammogram; she saved my life. I was sure I was going to die, then I looked up ‘mastectomy’ and faced it [she had a single mastectomy and reconstruction].

“Now I love Derek and Eric, as I call my breasts. My father died of melanoma so when I got that diagnosis on New Year’s Eve 2023, I nearly fainted. I’m through treatment but I won’t go outside in the sun.

“Otherwise I’ve got to live life, I’m lucky, it’s freed me from the shackles of my heart. Before, I didn’t think it was OK to be myself. Don’t wait to get cancer to free yourself.”
