Lynda Carter is teaming up with Ryan Reynolds to save Christmas — and take a jab at his ugly Christmas sweater.
In a new campaign to benefit The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), the actress appears alongside Reynolds, 48, as his Marvel character Deadpool and sidekick Kidpool (played by Ryan’s 8-year-old daughter, Inez Reynolds). Carter, 73, is best known for playing Wonder Woman in the 1970s live-action TV series based on the DC Comics character, making for a rare mashup of the two superhero franchises.
Standing next to Santa’s sled, Ryan tells Inez, “I thought we’d eliminate sick kids,” to which she replies, “Oh dude, that’s so f—d up. ” He then clarifies: “No, no, no, we’re eliminating the sickness by encouraging people to donate, but we’re going to need some help because you and I are technically R-rated and these are kids, sick kids.”
Carter than magically appears to offer her help. When Ryan prompts her to perform her signature spin transformation into Wonder Woman, the actress winds up wearing a red and green sweater adorned with a massive gold bow and confusedly looks down at her festive ensemble.
The look is a nod to the ugly Christmas sweater Ryan was once pranked into wearing to a gathering with some famous pals. In a photo shared to Instagram in December 2018, the Marvel star is seen frowning in the same red and green sweater as he stood between Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Per a press release, SickKids is the “largest charitable funder of child health research, learning and care in Canada.” Ryan, who is Canadian, and his wife, Blake Lively, have pledged to match all donations up to $500,000 made before midnight on Dec. 24. You can support this year’s campaign at SickKidsSweaterLove.ca.
“Philanthropy is a critical source of funding for SickKids — one of the world’s foremost paediatric health-care institutions,” the statement continues. “Thanks to the generosity of the community, SickKids Foundation generated more than $212 million in revenue in support of children’s health for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.”
