Jennifer Lopez once hated the double stage with Shakira: “This is the worst idea in the world!”

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira made history with their performance at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, the documentary Halftime recently revealed that Jennifer Lopez once vehemently opposed the decision of the National Rugby League to invite two artists to perform for the event.

Sharing with music director Kim Burse during the preparation for the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Lopez shared: “This is the worst idea in the world! Each of us only has 6 minutes, 30 seconds for each song. […] We have to have our own shining moments. This is not a dance spin. We have to sing our message.” Lopez shared with Burse.

Jennifer Lopez thinks that 12 minutes is too little for the two stars to perform.

In another scene of the film, Lopez’s longtime manager, Benny Medina, also spoke up: “Normally, there will be a performer at the Super Bowl. That performer will help build the show, and whether or not to choose another guest is their decision. It’s an insult to say that it takes two Latino artists to do the work that one artist has been able to do before.”

Artists who have performed before at the Super Bowl such as Lady Gaga or Madonna have a solo performance stage for about 15 minutes.

After Jennifer Lopez voiced a strong protest, the Super Bowl organizers also decided to spend 14 minutes on the halftime performance, leaving Jennifer Lopez and Shakira each about 7 minutes to perform the best songs of their careers.
