Since he was young, Jordan Walsh has dealt with alopecia a condition in which a person’s immune system attacks hair follicles and leads them to fall off. However, he’s not alone! As many other professional athletes also have dealt with the same disease prior to him. One of them is former NBA star Charlie Villaneuva, who shares a close bond with Walsh because of the same.
The youngster was facing a few problems dealing with the disease early into his career. However, that changed when he watched a video of Villanueva sharing his experience with alopecia. According to an article by The Athletic’s Jared Weiss and Mike Vorkunov, “(Walsh) was struggling with Alopecia and the parents were looking for answers,” Villanueva said. “Lo and behold, I was 30 minutes away.”
The retired star helped Walsh, “He was really helpful, more than anything off the court,” giving him some valuable insight on how he should not let the disease affect or control him by any means. “I felt like I needed to be in control of my life and don’t let Alopecia be the thing where it quite literally takes control of me and affects the way I move on a daily basis,” Since then the 20-year-old has focused on improving his game and not let alopecia dictate his life. Furthermore, he also serves as an inspiration for others who are suffering from the same.
