How long is Jaylen Brown out? Hip injury timeline, return date, latest updates for Celtics star image

While the Celtics are off to a strong 7-1 start as the defending champions, one of their stars has been dealing with some injury issues as of late.

Jaylen Brown, who took home Finals MVP in June and has averaged over 20 points in five straight seasons, has missed Boston’s last two games while dealing with an injury. He tweaked his hip in the Celtics’ win over the Hornets last Friday, still totaling 25 points in 37 minutes as Boston claimed a 124-109 victory. However, he’s been sidelined since.

Here’s the latest on Brown’s injury, including how much time he could miss and the Celtics’ upcoming schedule.

What is Jaylen Brown’s injury?

Brown is dealing with a strained left hip flexor, the Celtics officially shared on Tuesday.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla offered an update on Brown on Tuesday, saying he’s “not concerned” about the star’s injury.

Throughout his career, one of the Celtics’ top benefits of having Brown has been his durability. He’s played in at least 57 games in every season of his career, consistently on the court for Boston as a go-to scoring threat and strong defender alongside Jayson Tatum.

Brown will not play in the Celtics’ matchup against the Warriors on Wednesday, Nov. 6. It marks the third straight game he’ll miss.

With Mazzulla saying Brown is “day-to-day,” he seemingly could be back in action soon.

Per Cleveland Clinic, hip flexor strains usually take a week or two to fully recover from, and there’s not much reason for Boston to rush Brown back with a 7-1 record already this season.

It’s likely that the Celtics remain cautious with Brown, allowing his strain to fully heal before he’s back on the floor.
