The New York Liberty defended their home court and strengthened their position in the ongoing WNBA playoff semifinals against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday. The Liberty secured a hard-fought 88-84 victory and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and took a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

New York’s superstar Breanna Stewart delivered an outstanding all-around performance, playing a key role in the franchise’s fifth victory over the Aces this season. Breanna’s wife Marta Xargay was ecstatic after witnessing another stellar display from her better half in such a crucial game.

Xargay took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a five-word shoutout celebrating Breanna Stewart’s performance.

“So f**** proud of you @breannastewart.”

The 30-year-old Breanna, who is chasing her third WNBA title, didn’t have the best of shooting nights. Yet, the two-time champion left her imprint all over the game.

The two-time league MVP filled the stat sheet after playing 37:13 minutes in the game. The two-time Finals MVP scored 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 0-of-5 from the three-point range. Breanna also recorded seven rebounds, eight assists and a steal while she shot 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Marta Xargay, who is a former Spanish guard, is one of Breanna Stewart’s biggest supporters. Xargay frequently attends Liberty games and is a constant presence, cheering on her wife. Numerous videos on social media have captured Xargay’s animated reactions to Breanna’s performances on the court.

Breanna Stewart and Liberty eye revenge over the Aces

Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty are highly motivated to complete the unfinished business from last season. The Eastern Conference team made it to the WNBA Finals last year but fell short, losing 3-1 to the Las Vegas Aces.

With revenge on their minds, Sandy Brondello’s squad is now just one step away from eliminating A’ja Wilson and Co. from the playoffs, moving them closer to their ultimate goal of winning the championship.

Breanna had a relatively ordinary postseason last year, but the three-time Olympic gold medalist is determined to set the record straight. This time, the 30-year-old has been outstanding for the Liberty. Through four playoff games, the two-time champion is averaging 20.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and one block per game.

Breanna and New York have three chances to close out the Aces and secure a spot in the Finals. Liberty fans are hoping the team can achieve this in the next game. For that to happen, Breanna will need to deliver an exceptional performance in what promises to be a tough playoff road game for Sandy Brondello’s team.
