There was indeed an unusual scene on Saturday night, live from the Bell Centre, immediately following the goal scored by Patrik Laine on the power play.

It was Dallas Stars defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin who made a really strange decision, one that led to an injury for linesman Michel Cormier.

After two consecutive penalties were called against the Stars, Patrik Laine finally made them pay on the power play, as only he knows how to do so well.

However, right after the next faceoff, defenseman Lyubushkin of the Stars made a strange decision by unleashing a slapshot with all his might.

Personally, I don’t think it was a deliberate and intentional act, but I admit it was truly a strange decision.

Lyubushkin had no pressure, and anyway, we almost never see a defenseman take a powerful slapshot to clear the puck, let alone after a faceoff when his team has time to gain control of the puck.

Veteran linesman Michel Cormier was helped off the ice; he did not return. He reportedly suffered a broken leg on the play and is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.
