Jayson Tatum’s Tattoo of Himself Has Fans Talking

NBA champion Jayson Tatum’s new tattoo has all of his fans talking, and not always for the right reasons.

Photos began circulating this week on social media of the Boston Celtics forward’s new piece of back art, an animation of himself kissing the Larry O’Brien Trophy which celebrates his first NBA championship. The tattoo joins several others on Tatum’s back celebrating his hometown of St. Louis.

Unsurprisingly, fans on X (formerly Twitter) had a lot of opinions about Tatum’s latest addition. “People will find a way to hate on him for this– lmfao it’s insane,” @TheCelticsGlobe correctly guessed.

“Cheesiest player in the NBA,” one naysayer immediately responded. “I love Tatum but a tattoo of yourself on yourself is just weird to me,” another mused. “Like you couldn’t just get the picture hung up in your crib????”

But other users defended Tatum’s artistic choices. “Tatum manifesting that championship energy with the new ink!” @GaasCmb wrote. “This hard ion care what y’all say,” another concurred.

Many simply didn’t understand the fervent objection to the ink. Tatum was one of the leading factors behind the Celtics’ nabbing the title. During the playoffs, he averaged 25 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game. In the fifth game, Tatum had 31 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds.

“I don’t understand the hate its his first ring,” @KD35Muse, “he’s been so close for 6 years and now he finally won.”
