Tim McGraw’s birthday message to Faith Hill has inspired a response he may not have intended.

Tim McGraw Fans Have Strong Feelings About His Women’s Rights Message

Or maybe he did?

The singer has long championed strong women and publicly put Hill on a pedestal. Saturday (Sept. 21) was her 57th birthday, and — as he does most years — McGraw recognized her on social media.

“Happy birthday to this remarkable woman! My beautiful, strong, crazy, badass wife!” he begins.

I love my girl with everything that I am and could ever hope to be! She is our beacon, our rock, our strength. The girls and I are so very blessed! Our girls could not have a better role model in their lives as how to be an incredibly strong woman. And how to believe in themselves and be in charge of their lives (every aspect of their lives)! Let’s honor the women in our lives with respect and make sure that we fight for their rights right alongside them!

The last sentence, while not overtly political, inspired a social-political response.

The majority were supportive. @KarenLisa says, “Imagine people being upset about a man defending the rights of girls and women. But of course, I’m sure he knew to expect that when he posted this. Thank you for standing strong and using your power to speak up for those with less, Tim McGraw! I respect you so much for this.”

“Yes! I pray we get women’s right back for my daughter and granddaughters,” @duzerma writes. “Glad you understand the assignment!”

“Omg tim well said ! Yes let’s fight for women ! Do hear Tim, all the men in our lives must fight for our rights.”

Others objected to what McGraw was saying.

@loril965 writes, “Do some research Tim. No rights are being taken away. My goodness use your brain.”

“Will never purchase your music or attend one of your concerts,” @elaineretire says. “How about being a good Dad and teaching your daughters about honoring and respecting their bodies.”

At least one person compared McGraw’s perspective to another country star who’s known to get political: “Always liked you better than say Jason Aldean and now I know why,” @mikecannboston says.

McGraw and Hill have three daughters together, Maggie, Gracie and Audrey. Last month, Hill deactivated her social media accounts without explanation.
