Jared Goff in Running to Dethrone Patrick Mahomes as Top NFL QB as Jon Gruden Praises Lions’ ‘Impressive’ Offense

Going into the clash against the Lions last Sunday, the Vikings were one of the unbeaten teams alongside the Chiefs. But that record didn’t last in Minnesota as Lions QB Jerod Goff continued his fine form into week 7. Helping his team come away with a narrow 2-point victory on Sunday, Jerod Goff ensured the Lions are a team to beat this season.

Completing 22-of-25 passes for 280 yards alongside two TDs, Goff caught the attention of former NFL head coach Jon Gruden. When asked to give his take on which quarterback is at the top of their game this season on Pardon My Take podcast, Gruden didn’t take much time, as he put the Lions QB ahead of everyone. “Jared Goff is starting to look like Joe Montana to me. He plays with continuous movement. He completes almost every single pass. He’s tough as hell. He has continuity in the same system. He knows and anticipates what plays are going to be called. They have a real impressive balanced offense. I got Goff way up their on my list.”

Well, it doesn’t surprise us to see Gruden take Goff’s name ahead of every other QB, including Patrick Mahomes so far this season as the 30-year-old is on a rampage. Over the last three games he has played in the NFL, the Lions QB has mustered more than 140 passer rating. It all started with the Seahawks clash, where Goff completed all of his 18 passes, thereby setting an NFL record for completing most pass attempts without incompletions.

While putting up record after record this season, Goff has also joined the NFL ‘GOAT’ Tom Brady in doing so. Joining the seven-time Super Bowl Champion, Goff is only the second player to post a passer rating of 110 after four games in a season. After seven weeks of NFL action, Goff ranks 1st in terms of yards per attempt among the QBs (9.25). As for his numbers, the Lions QB has recorded 1,610 yards and 10 TDs with a passer rating of 111.5. The only blemish on his season so far is the four interceptions he has around his name.

As Goff continues to earn applause for his performances this year, he is proving his critics wrong after switching from the Rams to the Lions in 2021.

Jared Goff shutting off his critics after impressive performances week in and week out

Over the last four games, on three occasions, Jared Goff didn’t throw a single incompletion during the first half. This got Lions Syndicate host Derrick to open up on how he is proving his critics wrong: “As far as Jared Goff is concerned. I watched a lot of Rams games on my other channel as I was kind of following the NFL. Jared Goff, to me, I don’t understand why it was so disliked from the Lions fan base. I have never, ever turned my back on Jared Goff because I watched this guy with the Rams. I saw what he could do.”

Goff joined the Lions in a direct switch with then-Lions QB Matthew Stafford, who went to the Rams as part of a trade package. And from then on, Derrick remembers how he continues to get compared with Stafford, “I think he got compared a lot of our old quarterback. I think that’s the thing for a lot of Detroit Lions fans. Oh you can’t do this, this guy would do that. But Jared Goff man, he’s been a winner. It’s been amazing to watch the MVP chatter.”

As Goff continues to draw attention with his plays this season, will he manage to keep the MVP chatter going with the likes of Patrick Mahomes? Well, to find out the answer, he needs to help the Lions stage a strong rally for a Super Bowl title this season.
