It’s heartbreaking watching the devastation unfold in southern California.
A combination of low humidity, drought conditions and hurricane-force winds unleashed the perfect storm, igniting a series of wildfires across the Los Angeles region. Police have confirmed five deaths as firefighters relentlessly battle the blaze. The largest of the fires has already destroyed more than 2,000 structures in the Pacific Palisades region, including country star Brad Paisley’s former home. And on Thursday (Jan. 9), Chrissy Teigen revealed that she and her husband, The Voice coach John Legend, have evacuated with their four children and pets.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Are in a Hotel With Their Family
A series of roaring wildfires erupted Tuesday (Jan. 7) and continue rampaging across the Los Angeles metropolitan area two days later. The largest of the fires, the Palisades Fire, currently encompasses more than 24.7 square miles.
On Wednesday (Jan. 8), the destruction reached singer-songwriter John Legend, wife Chrissy Teigen, and their family. On her Instagram Stories, Teigen described a “hellscape.”.
“We are ok as of right now, and I felt weird saying that with so many people we know and don’t know who are not ok,” wrote the model and TV personality. “Thank you for reaching out. Looking for any and all ways to help our community right now, please send anything you see. And God Bless the firefighters and all first responders.”
Several hours later, Teigen shared a shocking photo of herself crying in her closet as her family readied to leave everything behind.
“This is surreal. I’m very scared now. Packing,” she wrote.
Perhaps trying to maintain a sense of humor about the situation, Teigen also posted a photo of Legos to her Instagram Stories, writing, “I f—ing told John not to start this Lego.”
According to his wife’s Instagram Stories, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have taken refuge in a hotel with their four kids, four dogs and pet bearded dragon.
Casualties Mount As Firefighters Struggle To Contain Blaze
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen aren’t the only ones forced out of their homes by the southern California wildfires. According to Cal Fire, more than 5,000 structures had been destroyed by the flames as of Thursday (Jan. 9) afternoon.
R&B singer Jhené Aiko confirmed Thursday that the Pacific Palisades fire claimed the home she shares with her two children.
