Seven-year WNBA veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell has grown to like playing alongside rookie sensation Caitlin Clark with the Indiana Fever. The duo will hope to further explore their potential moving forward.

Speaking in the postgame interview following Indiana’s 84-80 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday, where Mitchell also set a franchise record for notching a fifth straight 20-point game, the former Ohio State star spoke of her growing chemistry with Clark and what they have accomplished to date.

Mitchell said:

“I think the best part about it [playing alongside Clark] is that our chemistry continues to get better. No one knew that we started this like four or five months ago and so we just really getting acclimated on the chemistry side.

“I value what Caitlin brings to the table … Not only does she have the pace in the space, but she could shoot the lights out the ball and you just got to be ready when your number’s called with a person like that,” she added.

In their home win over Connecticut on Wednesday, the combo of Mitchell and Clark once again showed the way, with the former going for 23 points and the latter posting all-around numbers of 17 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Kelsey Mitchell is set to become an unrestricted free agent next season, but with her chemistry with Clark proving to be a boon not only to her game but to the team in general, the guard may continue to be with the franchise for years to come.

The win was the second straight for the Fever, which improved to 15-16 for the season, putting them seventh overall in the WNBA standings and third in the Eastern Conference with nine games left in their regular season schedule. They are just a game behind the No. 6 Phoenix Mercury (16-16) and three games clear of No. 8 Chicago Sky (11-19).

Kelsey Mitchell looking forward to finally making it to the playoffs

The two-time All-Star has not made it to the playoffs in her first six years with the Indiana Fever but will hope to finally break through this time around. However, she is not getting ahead of herself, choosing instead to take it game-by-game as they make a push for a postseason spot.

During the postgame press conference following their victory over the Atlanta Dream on Monday, she spoke about their playoff push and how they are going about it:

Mitchell said (via USA Today):

“I think in our locker room, even when coaches talk about it, we focus from game-to-game. But we’re not crazy, you know, playoffs is a big deal for all of us, and I think we try to stay focused on what’s right, and I think the main thing is game-by-game.”

The last time the Indiana Fever made it to the playoffs was back in 2016 when they finished with a 17-17 record. However, they exited the postseason in the opening round at the hands of the Phoenix Mercury.
