Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story is one for the ages. The couple met while studying at St. Andrew’s University, and although they almost weren’t allowed to live together at first, things turned out great. They were friends — but we all know that there was more than just friendship between them at this point.
The future king was already a romantic back then and tried his best to impress his now-wife, Kate. At the same time, they have had some very challenging times together, and this year has likely been the toughest with Kate’s cancer diagnosis.
However, things are looking brighter now, and the couple appears to be more in love than ever before. As the future king and queen, it’s natural that they are recognized anywhere they go. However, it turns out that they have found ways not to get recognized – and it has happened more than once.
For Prince William and Kate Middleton, 2024 didn’t go as planned. The Princess of Wales first underwent abdominal surgery and later got the shocking news that she had cancer.
She began her cancer treatment in February and disappeared from public life. In the meantime, Prince William took on colossal responsibility both as a working member of the Royal Family and, most importantly, as a father and husband.
Prince William & Kate Middleton marriage “stronger than ever”
Although the cancer diagnosis was horrifying news, things have thankfully gotten better for the family. In June, Kate Middleton made her first public appearance since last year when she attended Trooping the Color, and both she and Prince William looked happier than ever.
Some weeks later, a new picture of the Prince and Princess of Wales was published on their social media as they celebrated William’s birthday. The couple looked deeply in love, and according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, William and Kate are stronger than ever together.
“The last few months have been a test of their strong partnership,” Bond told OK! at the time. “I think this photograph tells us that they are still able to jump for joy, even in the toughest of times, and that Kate has deliberately chosen a picture that speaks of their optimism for the future.”
“She adores William – he is her rock and has supported her so selflessly through all of this and has taken flak from members of the public for not doing more and for devoting himself to her. So she adores her man. I think their marriage is stronger than ever,” she added.
Kate Middleton revealed she is cancer free in emotional video
On September 9, Kate Middleton shared a new update on her recovery, revealing the fantastic news with the world that she is cancer-free.
In a moving video showing William, Kate, and their children enjoying some quality time in nature, Kate explained that it’s a “relief” to have completed her chemotherapy treatment.
The Princess of Wales said, “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”
“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she added.
The intimate video was something royal fans hadn’t seen for a long time. Besides the fantastic news of her cancer being gone, it was also a portrait of the love between her and her husband.
Speaking with the Daily Mail, body language expert Judi James concluded that it showed the “true depth of adoration and love” between the two.
“The body language in this video tells us all we need to know about Kate’s recovery – and more. Since their engagement Kate and William have always been very careful and very sparing with their PDAs,” James said. “Suddenly though, we are shown the true depth of their adoration and love for each other in some simple but immensely touching scenes in this video.”
“Naked adoration from William”
Judi James explained that the “moments of joy and romping play” showed that Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children are “a family in a state of celebration, not, anxiety.”
The video showed them playing in the woods and spending time on the beach. At one point, the Prince and Princess of Wales lay tangled in a blanket, hugging their children.
“Playing with the children she also talks about a ‘new perspective’ that suggests that reflection has prompted some important prioritizing,” James continued. “Her folded arm pose with the raised chin suggests firm, brave resolve as well as positivity and optimism.”
“When [Kate] talks about taking it ‘one day at a time,’ she is seen walking away from the camera into a wheat field to make the point look non-negotiable.”
Judi James concluded, “The body language here is profound and emphatic, suggesting that Kate is putting loving and being loved first and the reward is the naked adoration from William and the very free-range, fun-loving children.”
Prince William & Kate Middleton – date nights
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story began at St. Andrews University. The couple became good friends, but when they planned to move in together with some other friends, William was almost not allowed to since the university had a no-boys policy. However, things worked out, and they moved into 13A Hope Street, an off-campus apartment.
Prince William did his best to be romantic; once, he revealed that he cooked dinner for Kate. She admitted that “he would always come with a bit of angst and a bit of anger if something had gone wrong,” and that she “would have to wander in and save something that was going.”
“When I was trying to impress Kate, I was trying to cook these amazing fancy dinners, and what would happen was I would burn something, something would overspill, something would catch on fire and she would be sitting in the background trying to help, and basically taking control of the whole situation, so I was quite glad she was there at the time,” William recalled.
“It was very romantic,” Kate said. “There’s a true romantic in there.”
Date nights were, and still are, very important for the Prince and Princess of Wales. But as one can imagine, since they are very public figures, they can’t just pop out for a quick bite or a movie.
Prince Wiliam & Kate Middleton’s return to St Andrew’s
Three years ago, William and Kate returned to the roots of their love story when they visited the contemporary restaurant Forgan’s. Twenty years after they fell in love, the couple returned to the Scottish town on royal duties. The couple asked for private seating at the back of the restaurant, with their security sitting nearby.
“There was a crowd outside once they left, but as far as inside goes, it was quiet,” the restaurant’s manager, Marc, said. “There was no pomp and ceremony or fanfare, they were very nice, and when they left they were very complimentary.”
“Word certainly reached me that we had guests come in,” the manager continued but declined to reveal what the couple had eaten.
Marc, the manager, believed that Kate had been recommended to their restaurant by her university, as it was a popular spot for her friend group.
Forgan’s wasn’t in business when William and Kate were studying at the university, but they were said to hang out at a local pizza place.
During their revisit to St. Andrew’s, the couple had difficulty going incognito, which is to be expected. However, a year earlier, in 2020, they actually managed to go unnoticed while visiting Ireland.
When speaking to performers in Galway, William and Kate revealed details about their daughter, Princess Charlotte’s, gymnastic interest – and that they had visited Cirque du Soleil.
“Catherine’s his biggest cheerleader”
“Charlotte is really into gymnastics, she’s doing cartwheels, handstands, everything. It’s so good for their basic skills of balance and coordination,” Kate said.
Prince William added, “And their flexibility—it’s really good for their long-term health, isn’t it? We went to watch Cirque du Soleil recently; it was amazing.”
Hello! Magazine reported that it was most likely Cirque du Soleil: Luzia, a Mexican-inspired show in London, that the Prince and Princess of Wales most likely had visited. Later, a video on TikTok revealed how Prince William also had some significant skills in circus performances.
The future king juggled three balls to the audience’s applause, leaving royal fans amazed.
“So cute how smitten she is!” one fan commented, as per Newsweek.
A second added: “No end to William and Kate’s talents – what a fabulous pair!” while a third noted: “William is my fave royal & didn’t know he juggled! And love that Catherine’s his biggest cheerleader.”
While Prince William and Kate Middleton might never be able to go out on dates without having people around them, there is one place where it is easier.
Where Prince William and Kate Middleton go out on date nights – and no one knows about it
The couple often travels to their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, where they have spent considerable time in recent years to escape the public eye during Kate’s recovery. Not only do they enjoy privacy within the walls of their home in Norfolk, but they also experience a sense of anonymity among the locals. There, royal fans may not even realize that Prince William and Kate Middleton have been out in public, enjoying a quiet night just like anyone else.
“The locals are incredibly protective of them, you don’t often see people get out their camera phones and record them. They are left to just get on with a family occasion,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told OK! in 2021.
“If you speak to anyone from North Norfolk, they’re incredibly proud that William and Kate are continuing a love affair with Norfolk that goes back generations. Kate and William tend to go to the same places and these are places where they are known and have a good relationship with the landlord or landlady.”
Nicholl added, “They’ve been going to these places for a long time, so it’s not unusual and it’s not difficult for them to go and relax. Norfolk is one of the few places they can just enjoy ordinary, everyday experiences as a family. William and Kate often go out on date nights and you don’t hear about it.”
