The Golden State Warriors saw a major roster change in the offseason when Klay Thompson departed to join the Dallas Mavericks. Despite this, the fanbase remains optimistic and confident in the current team’s potential under their perennial star, Stephen Curry.
Curry has been spectacular this season, leading the Warriors to a strong 9-2 record and securing the second spot in the highly competitive Western Conference. Beyond dominating on the court, Curry’s influence extends to television viewership.
Though a recent report shared a decline in NBA viewership, Curry influenced the ratings. According to Front Office Sports, Curry’s game against the Boston Celtics on ESPN averaged 2.14 million viewers, making it the most-watched NBA game since the league’s opening week. The matchup proved Curry’s enduring appeal and the Celtics’ popularity as one of the league’s premier teams.
The excitement didn’t stop there. On the first night of the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup, Curry faced off against teammate-turned-rival Klay Thompson in the Bay Area. The game, which aired on TNT, also averaged 2.14 million viewers. This marked an 84% increase in viewership compared to last season.
The thrilling matchup showcased why Curry is often referred to as “must-see TV” by fans. Fans have been vocal about their admiration for the four-time NBA champion, with many calling him the “face of the league.”
Austin Rivers Reflects On Facing Stephen Curry’s Dominance
Former NBA player Austin Rivers recently shared his experiences of competing against Steph Curry, mentioning just how difficult it was to defend the Golden State Warriors superstar. Speaking on The Ringer NBA Podcast, Rivers recalled moments where Curry’s brilliance left him and his team stunned.
“I was on the Clippers when he did the thing where he dribbled through the whole team and turned around, shot the three. I was at the game where he did the behind the back, and Chris [Paul] fell,” Rivers said.
This season, the Warriors star continues to perform at an exceptional level. He is averaging 23.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game.
