REPORT: Green Bay Packers Sign Notable QB In Interesting Move Before Wild Card Round Game vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The Green Bay Packers have made a notable move at quarterback ahead of their Wild Card Round playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On Saturday, the Green Bay Packers announced that they have signed veteran signal-caller Sean Clifford back to the active roster. The 2023 fifth-round pick was previously on their practice squad.
Starting quarterback Jordan Love was nursing an elbow injury throughout the week, but he was removed from the injury report on Friday. Backup Malik Willis finished out last week’s regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears, a 24-22 Packers loss.
The Green Bay Packers drafted Clifford in the fifth round (149th overall) out of Penn State last year. He attempted one pass in a Dec. 31, 2023 road game against the Minnesota Vikings that went for 37 yards.
Green Bay finished 11-6 in the regular season, marking their best record since 2021. But that was only good enough for third in the NFC North, with the 15-2 Detroit Lions and 14-3 Minnesota Vikings finishing ahead.
Sunday’s showdown with the Eagles will be a rematch of their Week 1 matchup in São Paulo, Brazil. The Eagles won a high-scoring back-and-forth affair 34-29 en route to an impressive 14-3 finish.
Green Bay Packers Look To Pull Off Another Wild Card Round Upset
The seventh-seeded Packers pulled off one of the great playoff upsets in franchise history last year when they crushed the Dallas Cowboys (undefeated at home in the regular season) on Wild Card Weekend.
As good as the Packers were in 2024, the 14-win Eagles are a considerable favorite here with home advantage, the league’s No. 1 defense and 2,000-yard rusher Saquon Barkley. We’ll see if Jordan Love and company can pull off another stunning Wild Card Round upset.
