As the Montreal Canadiens are going through a very difficult stretch right now and following yet another loss, changes are being called for.

Several names seem to have been placed on the trade market, and Kent Hughes appears to be active on the phone, but Georges Laraque just put forth another interesting suggestion.

If we go back to the change suggested by Laraque, other than a trade, it has gained quite a bit of attention on social media.

Gerard Gallant hired as the Montreal Canadiens coach to support Martin St-Louis?

See the post by the former Habs player and current host on BPM Sports:

“Gerard Gallant would be a good assistant coach for Martin St-Louis! The team needs to do something right now because the team is not going in the right direction! – Georges Laraque

He also added this a bit later:

We’re still waiting for the hard coaching.. As long as he doesn’t take a firm hand with certain veterans who are coasting, the Habs will keep sinking.. It’s too easy to use lack of confidence as an excuse for some players.. – Georges Laraque

In any case, the coming days promise to be very interesting for the Montreal Canadiens. As Dany Dubé mentioned on the radio last night, we shouldn’t think that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will just sit back with their arms crossed.

They too likely want to give their team a jolt and want the situation to turn around as quickly as possible.

And you, if it were your decision, what would you do?

Do you like the idea of seeing Gerard Gallant hired as an assistant to Martin St-Louis, replacing Alex Burrows, to send a message and better support the current team?

Let’s also remember that last night, the Montreal Canadiens fell 4-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Martin St-Louis’s squad currently finds itself, tied with the San Jose Sharks, in last place in the NHL standings.

No, this is not the season start that was hoped for. Yes, something will need to happen.
